and just when i thought i have escaped the flawed clutches of inappropriate army lingo forever, a familiar incorrect usage bounces back. as i applied for a job in this tourist attraction, i encountered a computer generated reply of:

Thank you for sending us your details. We will revert to you if you have been shortlisted. If not, we will retain your details for any future possibilities...

upon investigation via dictionary.com, i rediscover the appropriate meaning of the highlighted word in the passage:

re·vert
–verb (used without object)
1. to return to a former habit, practice, belief, condition, etc.: They reverted to the ways of their forefathers.
2. Law. to go back to or return to the former owner or to his or her heirs.
3. Biology. to return to an earlier or primitive type.
4. to go back in thought or discussion: He constantly reverted to his childhood.

hmmm. brings us to ponder whether singapore can break free from the neverending cycle of imperfect english at all :D
