3.31.2006 i have a confession to make. i'm actually a serial murderer who secretly infuses air bubbles periodically into sickbay patients. their hearts stop and i'm never suspected. mwahahaha! anyway, today marked the cremation of the late COL Bernard Tan Cheow Han. like every other SAF-organised event, it was loud, flashy, extravagant and uncalled for. as an oppressed soldier, i was expected to take on the presentation of being depressed or at least indifferent. but amidst the sombre mood, in addition to feeling sick and cold (in both senses of the word), i experienced two other emotions. [angst] the number of LTCs and COLs in the Guards Formation alone were enough to suck off at least Half a Million SGD worth of taxes EACH MONTH collected from the hard-earned money of honest, diligent taxpayers (who unwillingly give away their sons as slaves to the very mouths they feed). [relief] we have one less parasite. I KNOW. I KNOW. it is obscenely unfair to say that. for i do not know him, and after all, we also lose a leader, a colleague, a father, a son, a brother, a friend. but. in the process, we also have one less villian in the hierachy of dictatorship, less undue stress and unhappiness in soldiers tortured by their own fellow men, more time and more money to spend on things that really do matter to each and everyone of us. decide for yourself. 20:15 / and blackened tears fell with mine // |
