10.04.2005 so amazing an all star tribute to luther vandross    i'm hooked onto tribute albums ever since killer queen. and i definitely didn't want to miss this collection with its inclusion of personal favourites that have appeared time and again on idol(tm) such as a house is not a home, power of love and anyone who had a heart. (note- my rating for killer queen has upped to 4.5 stars because it's simply too awesome. joss stone's cover of under pressure, sum 41's killer queen and antigone rising's fat-bottomed girls simply grows on you.) the luther vandross tribute felt like a disappointment at first. i couldn't help thinking that clive davis was insane, mutating all of luther vandross' sentimental hits into r&b shit. but upon more spins, i noticed a myriad of very soulful performances that were breathtakingly deep, and accompanied with them were a good mix of popular performances by glamo celebs. impressive. this is also a good album for people like me who didn't understand why fantasia barrino was crowned champion back in AI3. it will make you change your mind :) my favourites: so amazing by beyonce & stevie wonder(!), never too much by mary j blige, dance with my father by celine dion, fantasia's cover of till my baby comes home and elton john's duet with mr vandross himself, anyone who had a heart. swoons. hahaha- 22:40 / and blackened tears fell with mine // |
