6.04.2005 funny valentine by amy jenkins - the finishing line by owen slot
funny valentine: anti-romantic journalist falls in love with insecure celebrity hunk. very straight forward plot injected with jokes and philosophical tunes. and they lived happily ever after (i guess). the finishing line: single divorce lawyer, shags B-list celebrity and falls in and out of love. opens as a wacky light read with nonsensical limericks and a lot of mention about sex; closes with emotions running high on love and justice in the legal system. reminds me of how unpredictable life can be. or how i might actually want to become a divorce lawyer. best man's speech from the finishing line: It can be too easy to get stuck in the roles we create for ourselves and Alex had a role about as well-defined as anyone's. I'm not saying that his was an act or an affectation - he'll always be a larger-than-life exuberant character. He'll probably always have that nice, cuddly wasitline and, unless Steph can work miracles, he'll always have a God-awful taste in music. But what he demonstrated is that we shouldn't be afraid to adapt and grow as people beyond the identities with which we feel safe. ... Love hasn't changed him, it's just made him strong enough to discover more about the person he is. 13:30 / and blackened tears fell with mine // |
