eeyucks! someone must have gotten horny at the bishan clubfitt gym. after an hour of workout i noticed i smelt of sweat and semen. not my own, of course. anyway, reviews of the week:

// batman begins

why do we fall? so that we can learn to pick ourselves up.

i'm glad they finally decided to use scarecrow in a batman film. he's one of the most underrated villians in batman history. at least he gets some of the spotlight here. kudos goes to the actor who starred as scarecrow. his johnnydepp creepyness really did the job.

i'll tell you why this is the best batman movie ever.

1. take a look at the cast: christian bale. gary oldman. michael caine. liam neeson. morgan freeman. YOU tell me who isn't a must-watch. the entire movie shone on acting alone. (although i thought val kilmer beat bale at being mr. playboy)

2. this is the only batman movie with a heart- at the centre of it all, fear. the opening scenes of bruce wayne's past were so captivating, the lack of batman action sequences didn't actually matter anymore.

it made batman seem much more tangible as a non-fictional character, which captured the gist of batman being batman, as opposed to the other superheroes with innate superpowers. in a way, his "great responsibility" did not come out of "great power", but great will. and that makes him much more respectable, and his deeds more commendable.

3. scarecrow's hypnotic power is so damn cool.

4. the action was pretty respectable. the chase scene in the batmobile left me gasping for air. and i bet you never saw batman summoning his comrades to his rescue before. (but that doesn't really count as action, does it? hmmm)

5. bale's tone when he becomes batman. scary.

6. ever seen a blue flower? you see one here.

7. singapore was mentioned twice in the film. how's that for going global?

8. uh... great set of posters (i guess you realise i just want to make it to 10)

9. minimal romance scenes (we're reaching there!)

10. and finally, because i recommend it :)

// pay it forward by catherine ryan hyde

there are some times when your heart betrays your brain. this is one of them.

if the book didn't keep squeezing out tears from me, logical literary reasoning would have given this read a 3 star for mediocre use of literary devices and a lack of extensive vocabulary.

i'm so hyped i could practically just go around paying it forward :)
