5.29.2005 madagascar by dreamworks pictures    5 stars for animation mastery. 2 stars for plot. the story: zoo animals return to the wild. the film could have been titled mauritius if not for the retarded lemurs and banal foosas which should have been evicted from the scenes. they're almost as irritating as jar jar binks in any star wars episode. madagascar sports mediocre attempts at being philosophical, presenting views of zoo animals (being happier in captivity) as those penned by yann martel in life of pi. the jokes were not too shabby though, making references to other fictional experiences such as the dead man in lord of the flies. i especially liked the irony in playing louis armstrong's what a wonderful world while the animals witnessed the reality of primal savagery in the jungle. in summary: very wacky, but very dry. 11:21 / and blackened tears fell with mine // |
